Beef and beans stuffed dough is a delicious homemade dish that combines soft, fluffy bread with a rich and savory filling. This recipe is popular across many cultures, appearing in different forms such as stuffed buns, filled flatbreads, meat pies, or hand-held pastries. What makes this version special is the combination of ground beef and beans, which creates a filling that is not only flavorful but also hearty and satisfying.

Ingredients

For the Dough

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1 tablespoon sugar

  • 1 tablespoon instant yeast

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil or olive oil

  • 1 cup warm water (add gradually as needed)

For the Beef and Beans Filling

  • 250 grams (½ lb) ground beef

  • 1 cup cooked beans (kidney beans, pinto beans, or black beans)

  • 1 small onion, finely chopped

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin

  • 1 teaspoon paprika

  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

  • ½ teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)

  • 2 tablespoons cooking oil

  • Optional: chopped parsley or cilantro for extra flavor

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, sugar, and instant yeast. Mix well to distribute the yeast evenly. Add the oil and begin adding warm water gradually while mixing. Once the dough comes together, transfer it to a lightly floured surface and knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth, soft, and elastic.

Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Step 2: Prepare the Filling

Heat the oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until soft and translucent. Add the garlic and sauté briefly until fragrant. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon.

Stir in the cooked beans, cumin, paprika, black pepper, and salt. Lightly mash some of the beans to help bind the filling together. Cook for another 4–5 minutes, then remove from heat and allow the filling to cool completely.

Step 3: Shape and Stuff the Dough

Punch down the risen dough and divide it into equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball, then flatten it into a small circle using a rolling pin. Place a spoonful of the cooled filling in the center of each circle.

Carefully bring the edges together and seal tightly to prevent leaking during cooking.

Step 4: Cook the Stuffed Dough

  • Baking Method: Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Place the stuffed dough on a lined baking tray and bake for 20–25 minutes until golden brown.

  • Pan-Frying Method: Heat a lightly oiled pan over medium heat. Cook the stuffed dough, turning occasionally, until golden and cooked through.

  • Air-Frying Method: Air-fry at 180°C (350°F) for 12–15 minutes, flipping halfway.
